Historic Resources Project Coordinator - NPS ESP Program

The ESP program is designed to connect experienced workers, age 55 or older, with fulfilling and challenging opportunities at national parks and program offices that protect, conserve, and preserve our nation's valuable natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources.
The Appalachian National Scenic Trail (ANST) is recruiting for a Historic Resources Project Coordinator that will assist in the management of a multi-state project to list the historic resources of the ANST in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and develop related preservation guidance.
Works with park and regional NPS staff, as well as a variety of other partners, to help administer project documentation, facilitate communications & coordination, assist in the technical review of NRHP nominations, and assist in the development of preservation guidelines for the A.

Role and
Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assist in organizing and administering project documentation for the ongoing Historic Resources of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (ANST) National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) project, which includes a multiple property documentation form (MPDF) and individual nominations covering Trail resources in 14 states.
Provide project communications and coordination support, including maintaining project schedules, coordinating internal and external meetings, preparing formal and informal correspondence, and developing informational materials such as fact sheets, visual presentations, and Web content, and briefing statements.
Assist with technical review of individual state nominations and other project documents.
Duties may involve research and development of information to support, correct, and improve NRHP nominations.
Provide planning support and participate in meetings or workshops with the core project team and other partners.
Assist in the development of historic preservation guidance for ANST historic districts.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
The ideal candidate for this position has a bachelor's degree in history or related discipline with experience developing National Register of Historic Places nominations and managing NRHP-listed properties; critical knowledge/skills include familiarity with the Historic Resources Preservation Act as applied to the National Register of Historic Places; ability to organize and manage project documentation; strong skills in communications and coordination, and ability to adjust to changing program needs/priorities; must be proficient in MS Office applications including MS Teams and other remote meeting software.
Telework may be authorized for this position upon completion of all telework requirements, including successful completion of background investigation and obtaining access to DOI-NPS computer networks.
Hours & Compensation:
Temporary position working an average of 20 hours per week @ $45.
