Museum Specialist (General)

As the Museum Specialist (General) you will:
-Provide overall technical direction for the registration program within the Museum Conservation Services and Collections Program -Apply up-to-date professional museum principals and techniques to ensure legal, physical, and intellectual control and preservation of museum collections. -Manage the registration collection storage and work spaces, maintaining proper preventive conservation protocols, security, fire protection and environmental monitoring. -Implement appropriate handling techniques specific to the needs of each museum object. -Assist with collection management activities associated with permanent collections at HFC. -Use computer databases to register, track and catalog museum collections and create supporting documentation. -Provide safe access to museum objects for HFC staff, researchers or contractors following established security procedures. -Maintain a work plan and create cost estimates for registration requirements for conservation projects. -Obtain, use, track and monitor a government credit card for purchasing supplies and equipment. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include:
managing museum collections; supervising volunteers and/or interns; preparing Standards of Practice (SOPs) or museum planning documents; handling museum objects properly and addressing the object's individual needs to prevent damage; creating appropriate storage containers for museum objects; utilizing the properties and requirements of museum grade materials used for storage and packing; working with a database to account for and track museum objects; and packing objects for shipment to ensure their safety. To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include:
Handling museum objects properly, addressing the object's individual needs to prevent damage; creating appropriate storage containers for museum objects; expertly utilizing the properties and requirements of museum grade materials used for storage and packing; working with a database to account for and track museum objects; and packing objects for shipment to ensure their safety. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least 2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Volunteer
Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
