Recreation Assistant

Participates in the overall implementation of program plans developed by Recreational Specialist or higher-level specialist. Instructs plans, manages, coordinates and schedules specific portions of the Centers recreational and physical fitness activities. Instructs and counsels students in positive social and employability skills for workplace success. Evaluates these characteristics for each student and conduct individual counseling sessions to correct problems, or refers as necessary serious maladjustment problems to the higher-level supervisor. Promotes standards of conduct, which are expected and accepted in the workplace. Participates in the Behavioral Management System as necessary to ensure proper workplace appearance and behavior. Conducts, organizes and plans a variety of conventional basic recreational and physical fitness training activities for students. Activities include basketball, roller-skating, and karate lessons. Conducts physical education classes and supervises tournaments. Plans, organizes, and coordinates the details of recurring, special events, evenings, weekly and weekend recreational activities. Instructs, teaches, and coaches students in isometrics and circuit training; aquatic programs e.g., swimming, boating, water safety, water sports, tournaments, games, rescue and related physical fitness activities; and safety and first aid. Organizes, instructs, and trains students to manage their own recreation and physical fitness program. Ensures compliance with and enforcement of all safety rules and regulations. Participate in the day-to-day administration and operations of a recreation or sporting facilities. Responsible for setting the hours of operation, assigning staff personnel and developing an inventory control systems. Inspects the maintenance of facilities. Exhibits safety techniques to students who are involved in such activities as camping, water sports, or fishing. Collects fees and maintains accurate attendance/usage records for all activities. Operates government vehicles to transport students to and from off-site activities. This may include operating buses with air brakes. The incumbent assists students, peers, and subordinates in understanding the relevance of, and promotes the development of positive social skills among students through modeling appropriate behavior, positive intervention, and positively intervening and teaching appropriate employability skills for workplace success. Participates in the Center Behavioral Management System (BMS) and/or the Student Code of Conduct (SCC) program as necessary to insure proper workplace conduct, appearance and behavior. Sets a positive example as a role model to students by displaying appropriate etiquette, timeliness, and dress. This position requires the selectee to obtain or possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the appropriate Endorsement(s) as required by the mission. This position is a Test Designated Position (TDP) under the Forest Service/Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program. All applicants selected for this position will be required to submit to a pre-employment urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Incumbents of this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis on an ongoing random basis, after appointment as directed. You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. (1) One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as:
in planning and implementing a variety of group physical fitness and recreational/sporting activities; and/or conducted physical education classes or provided instruction/coaching/supervision for a variety of recreation activities, sports, or games ensuring compliance of all safety rules and regulations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
